Does anyone know of good hostels in Sydney???
Cany wait for sun, sea and many giggles!!!

If you're a member of the YHA/IHF hostel group you can't beat the YHA at Central which was the best hostel in the world a couple of years ago. However i'm a sydneysider so i reckon location beats everything. Try to get a beachside hostel at either Coogee or Manly and since there are plenty of your countrymen there, it wouldn't be that much to move to a flatshare if you are going to work in Sydney. Whatever you do - don't go to the Cross for hostels. Hostels are invariably tight and in old buildings.
Finally pick up the TNT Magazine when you arrive, it's a weekly backpacker magazine. |

There's plenty of hostels in the cross - some of which are pretty good, others not. The Jolly Swagman and Eva's are both good options. Hostels can change very quickly, so what was good a couple of years ago often isn't now. The cross is very central, easy to get to from the airport and walking distance to the harbour, so worth a stay for a few days. Coogee, Manly and Bondi are the other main areas for backpackers. My personal preference is Coogee, but each part of Sydney has a very different atmosphere. You'll probably be better off getting VIP membership in Australia than YHA, and can apply for either when you get here. |

i dont know how much backpackers cost, but I am going to the US mid October so my room will be empty. I live in brighton le sands which is fairly close to sydney airport and pay AUD150 per week.
Currently I am looking into swapping my room with someone in the US, but I dont know how easy this will be.
Depending on how long you want to stay and what kind of experience you're looking for this might suit you.
I live with 2 permanent Australian residents who are originally from the US aged early 20s. |

one great way to meet other travellers is to do a bit of temp work say market research, call centre etc. i know a lot of English backpackers even tho i'm a local and they ALL seem to work for the same recruitment agency for call centres / bars etc! |
