I thought it might be more like the Uk based version (which is weirdly set up for Aussies (and dirty Kiwis) overseas) - but it is not! I mean, it's been the peak time, Aus time, and no-one is posting!
The main site is crammed, business hours! Does this mean UK based Aussies don't do any work? Or that Aussie based people either a) Are really hard workers (Hahahahaha! As if) or b) Don't use this site (yet)?
Any thoughts, people? |

Don't forget there's a much larger volume of people over there. I've noticed a huge difference with freecycle as well, and I lived in a smaller town in the UK, it was a whole lot busier than Brisbane city's one. *shrug*
I've recently come back from the UK and only discovered gumtree since arriving back but no one else I've talked to around here has heard of it. I found it using google to look for jobs. I don't know about other people though. |

| Guess so. I notice though that many things I take for granted on the internet (like say Trip Advisor) and booking engines, are much less populated in Aus, than in the UK. |

Well, according to Wiki the UK has a population of over 60 million people in 2006, and Aussie has just over 21 million over a much larger land mass. I'm not surprised everything is busier over there. |

| Three times. Is this site three times slower? Hardly. Try 30. |

Different lifestyles?
Like I said, I'd never heard of it before doing a job search on google after arriving back in Aussie. |

| Whenever I mention Gumtree, nobody knows what I'm talking about. I wonder how it got popular in the UK? I've never seen this site advertised here, matter of fact, I'm not quite sure how I came to finding it in the first place.. |

Are Kiwis (or Aussies for that matter) technically a "race"? I think not. A "culture" or "nation" perhaps, but not a "race". In relation to calling me things - call away - I'm not insecure, nor foolish enough, to take something which is banter, personally. |

no offense elle but that was a lame response
aussies are officially fatter than poms, and the maoris defenitely are too, i won't comment on white kiwis cos i don't know
weeowen surfs during quiet office hours, not in spare time
if you go to the london forum you will find it's quiet after these hours and weekends
i could ask why aussies only care about sport but that would be bullshit wouldn't it?
or why kiwis like shagging sheep but that would be bullshit too
or would it? |

Pommy girl: according to stats which I deal with alot aussies are one of the fattest nations in the world per head of population, above the americans now aswell. any how that wasn't my point in replying but to say...pls lame response?? shagging sheep what the hell is that....I can take it as a joke but that is a seriously old one and the crude thing either in this post or the other. I retrack thats due to different personalities and what you find funny |

I think it's a bit of a moot point debating who is more efficent at work etc. I would point out the irony of the fact that the Uk version of Gumtree, being the "first", was set up for Aussies and Kiwis in London. Many posters are from these countries too.
It was a minor curiosity, nothing more. However, I have noticed it extends to things like tripadvisor and other internet based resources - the Aussie based ones are ... well, dead.
It is a weird, but clearly noticable, trend. I wonder why. After all, do Aussies not want to share their trip experiences? I wonder about the break-down of blogs ove the world. |
