Hey everyone, im in a predicament-
i was about to send money for a house to rent through western union and they'l send the keys via DHL once they have the money.
i thought it may be to good to be true beacuse its a real nice house (have been emailed pictures) and been given an address to look at the house- which we are doing tomorrow.
it sounded really legitimate- have been conversing through emails for about two weeks now because i was unsure. shes told me all about her family-the husband is on a mission of god in west africa and the wife is in new jersey with their only daughter...
AND THEN i just saw someone had posted an ad saying that there is someone scamming money saying send the money via western union and will send the keys via DHL!
has anyone else had this happen to them? or does this sound familiar to anyone? Im so gutted! thought i had a good deal going

Put it this way, nobody would ever send keys via DHL or any other courier company. These things need to be done in person especially when it comes to something as big as renting a property.

People will go to all sorts of measures to scam you out of your hard-earned money.

OK. I dont post on this site but i had to after seeing this thread because i did have a similar experience...

Ok let me start here. I was looking for a flat / share in melburn a.s.ap , so i decided to have a look on this site . I came across an apartment advertised for $125 per week in the city cbd. I thought fuck this is good so i obviosuly enquired about it. to my annoyance i was told that to find out more about the apartment i will need to speak to someones wife in order to find out more info. so i decided to play and email the address i was provided. the first thing that got me suss was the fact that these / those people were calling me god bless you , god bless this , glod bless this etc etc. I automatically became slightly suss however i did continue to hear what these suckers said. To jump to conclusion they wanted a background check of me , including my name, address, previous rental history and so on . I decided to play along and send them the info they reqired and i was told that my application would be prossesed , meaning that they would have to ok it with the daughter or some shit like that . After this they sent me an email saying that my application was all good and that i was the one who would have the place. i thought fuck yes this is great its mine! however, when it came to MONEY things turned real nasty. The first thing they asked me was that i needed to send $970 or something on those lines to a western unioun account in nigeria . firstly when i think of western unuioun / nigeria i think scam scam scam. so instead of thinking , i decided fuck this i want to play with these wankers. So i posed the question to them , i dont think that you are legit , to prove to me that you are legit please send me a picture of you / your daughter to my postal address. by doing this i can make sure that you are legit and not a scam. obviosuly they came up with some bullshit answer saying , sorry i cant send it but for you to recieve the keys you must send the first deposit and then u will get the keys + info. I automatically became suss as and thought no fuckin way am i going ahead. Later on whilst i was sipping on a hot latte , my phone rings with some weird number, i answer the phone and it was some nigger nigerian on the phone who claimed to be the person from the ad. i tried to ask him to send me a picture of him + his daaughter to my postal address but he didnt take it well at all. in fact i had trouble understanding this dirty niggeer and then he hung up on me.. it was well well worth the time playing with this bastard. I am posting this because i want others to be very alert and carefull. the only thing that i recomend is for you to piss the fuck out of these people so that they think that you are taking the bait but you are really playing with them. i deleted all the emails i recieved because this was a ,long time ago but i do remeber that one of the scammers was called "rev some someone + the wife who was supposed to have all the info was called kerry halls . ahhh in future do not deposit or even consider depositing money into an foreign account overseas .. i am posting this up because i knew all along that this was a scam and i being myself always love to piss of people who are trying to do things in the wrong. Again, if you hear some bullshit like "god bless you" then you are bound to be something fishy.

Please be careful of anyone offering a one-bedroom apartment on William St in the CBD, its very risky. I emailed 'Rev' Donna Halls about one and realised it was a scam after seeing the gumtree ad on a Channel 7 news story on rental scams. I also recently replied to another one-bed in William St out of curiosity and received two similar emails from Rodney McBride and Bill Thomas using the same phrasing, same story (moved to West Africa for missionary work, please contact my wife in US or Canada) and making the same requests for a deposit, to keep the place very clean, and using DHL to deliver the keys.
Please, don't waste your time!
I also just want to express my disgust at the racist language used by somebody in this discussion, remember, white people in big corporations rip us off and scam us every single day!
