I'm giving up on the 'new' Gumtree. I've given it a fair go but I hate it. The old Gumtree was 110% better.

If anyone knows of a site comparable to the old Gumtree, please post it! Maybe I'll start using Craigslist here (Sydney), hopefully it will become more popular.

Not happy.

Craigslist is LOADED with scammers and spam artists and not worth the hassles. Try Simple Trade as a good alternative. Trading Post charges to place adverts, but they have a ‘free’ pay-on-sale option which can cost you heaps when the ‘buyer’ changes his mind and refuses to pay. Best wishes.

try swapbarterbuy.com

It's small, but Sydney based, so you should get local support. The scammers aren't on this one yet Smile

The users of this site bag it soundly, and appear to have for some time, but the service is still bad.
Wont be the first site that dies due to bad support.

had a good look at simple trade, looks like they have loads of listings, but when i inspected the actual categories Jobs & Real estate, they are linked to a job agency that provides most of their job lisitngs and also to some real estate site, so they dont really have many genuine private ads at all!.

I found a better site that looks genuine, not full of scammers & banner ads, its called Ockalist , i posted a free ad for my handyman services, it was really fast & easy, also they offer a featured ad for $5 for 30days which guarantees your ad will stay at the top of the search results, i find that with gumtree my ad dissapears within a few days.

I have tried a few sites, such as Bondi Classifieds, Cracker, craigs list and swap barter buy. I tried that okerlist (or ozlist) as they spammed a few of my ads asking me to come over and place an ad. Once I worked out HOW to use it and got an ad placed, within 15 mins they told me my ad was against their policies, they deleted my ad and blocked me. The really FUNNY thing was - they contacted me through THE ad I had here on gumtree, so I posted the same ad there - the one they welcomed me to place with them, and then deleted the ad and blocked me. *shakes head* - obvioulsy they didn't even check what I had listed. Needless to say I won't even try to use them again!!!
