Your work was contract based right? In that case the employer does not need to give a reason, unless your contract stipulated an end date further into the future.
While it would be tempting to hang onto the money, it is probably best (for any future reference checks) if you notify the former employer.
Make a note of when you speak/contact them and who you spoke with, so that they can not allege you did not do anything.
Cheers,

Hello,
Quite a situation you are in !!!!
As an employer & small business operator, I would hold you in high esteem & respect if you actually handed this cash back to your boss !
He / She will never forget this jesture of honesty, of which will be a great advantage to you when seeking future referances. You never know, they may offer you another contract due to your honesty.
Good luck.
Gerry. |

| I would also notify them as soon as you can. It's always best to get those kinds of things cleared up as soon as possible. There may be something going on that you're not aware of, and it's always a good idea to come clean. These things can smack in you in the face further down the track. |

Close that account and hope they're none the wiser!
The way I see it, they sacked you, but still have that idiot that hasn't done their job and taken you off the payroll working for them, I hope they're happy with the paymaster's performance.

I don't understand how you can come up with unqualified advice such as this, are you currently employed ? if you are, I doubt you would be dishonest like this, the sack would come to you "el-pronto"
Also, close the account or not, well the fact is that the bank will notify the ex employer who's account it went into & STILL order him to repay it !!
The accounting errors will appear very soon, can't go on forever, as audits will pick it up no matter what !!!
Honesty is the best policy, this will have a positive reflection.
My daughter had $27,000 deposited into her account by error, just imagine the strife if she withdrew it & knowingly closed her account, she would have been charged by the bank for theft & sued by the depositer, not to mention a criminal record.
Have you ever heard of the wise old saying: PENNY WISE, POUND FOOLISH ????? |
