hello

prior to having to reformat my pc, i was able to search gumtree nationally... but i am now limited to searching by individual cities, and i can't for the life of me figure out how to revert to the previous search facility.

any ideas?

cheers

Hi there mb230sl,

Gumtree is all about local face to face trading within the community - meeting with posters or buyers and completing the transaction in person.

With this in mind we have removed the option to run searches across all cities to help reinforce that we are a local site.

Thanks

thanks for the reply.

wouldn't it be better to give people the option? no one is going to be turned off the site by having a national search function, but the present restrictiveness does turn people off.

and gumtree's ambition is clear, given the recent, and obvious, move towards its commercialisation.

I'd have to agree with this too.

I think an "opt-out" option for searching Australia-wide is the best way to go. In a lot of cases, there's simply no need to view the item — or meet its seller face-to-face. Providing one carries out the normal due diligence procedures there's no intrinsic harm in buying something off somebody who's living interstate.

Granted, I'm not gonna buy a $25,000 motor vehicle sight unseen, but there is a lot of stuff I'd be happy buying at a distance.

But yeah — let's have the option.

Cheers. Smile
